A cluster about development of bird watching sites in the South east region has it as a goal to market Southeast Iceland as an interesting area for birdwatching. That kind of recreation is an addition to the entertainment of the area and lessens the stress on the most popular destinations of the area.
Birdwatching increases knowledge of the environment, reinforces environmental awareness and measures up to the need for educational and sustainable tourism. Birdlife in the Southeast is most interesting in the shoulder seasons, autumn and spring.
The cluster consists of members from Hornafjörður rural research centre, Djúpivogur municipality, South East Iceland birds observatory, Tourist board og East Skaftafell county, Birdwatchers association of Djúpavogur municipality and others.
