Scallop fishing was, until recently an important basis for the local industry. But due to a collapse in the population, scallop fishing has been banned since 2003. There was an uncertainty about the reason of the collapse, future prognosis and fishing of the scallop population. Snæfellsnes Research Centre in collaboration with the W-Iceland Institute of Natural History did an evaluation on the current data to access the state of knowledge and possible reason for the collapse, as well as to see what would be the best thing to do next. The evaluation was done by a specialist from the University of Iceland.
The evaluation has been finished, but is only available in Icelandic, so a summary of the results will be added here at a later time.
